Umrah Packing Checklist: What to Take (and What to Leave)

A practical Umrah packing checklist for Pakistani pilgrims — documents, Ihram and clothing, medicines, electronics and money, based on what travellers actually need.

Documents (hand luggage only)

  • Passport and printed Umrah visa (keep photos of both on your phone too)
  • Air tickets / booking confirmation and hotel vouchers
  • CNIC and copies of passport + CNIC (leave one set with family in Pakistan)
  • Vaccination certificates, including meningococcal (ACWY)
  • Emergency contacts and our WhatsApp number saved in your phone

Clothing

Makkah and Madinah are hot most of the year; winters (December–February) can be cool in Madinah early mornings. Pack light, breathable clothing:

  • Men: two sets of Ihram (one spare), a belt or pouch for Ihram, and comfortable sandals allowed in Ihram
  • Women: 2–3 abayas and hijabs, comfortable closed shoes for long walks
  • Everyday clothes for the days between rites, plus one warm layer
  • Unscented toiletries for the Ihram period (no perfume while in Ihram)
  • A small laundry bag — laundries in both cities are cheap and quick

Health and comfort

  • Your regular prescription medicines, with the prescription, in hand luggage
  • Basic first aid: plasters, pain relief, ORS sachets, throat lozenges, petroleum jelly (helps prevent chafing during Sa'i)
  • A refillable water bottle for Zamzam
  • Comfortable, broken-in walking shoes — you will walk several kilometres a day
  • A small backpack or neck pouch for the Haram; a shoe bag you can carry during Tawaf

Money and electronics

Saudi Arabia is highly card-friendly, but carry some Riyals for taxis, tips and small shops. Change money at a good rate in Pakistan or at reputable exchanges in Makkah/Madinah.

  • Saudi Riyals (small notes are most useful)
  • Debit/credit card enabled for international use — inform your bank before travel
  • Phone with a Saudi SIM or roaming package; hotel Wi-Fi is usually good
  • Universal travel adapter (Saudi sockets are mainly Type G, the same 3-pin style as Pakistan)
  • Power bank for long days out; charging cable in your day bag

What to leave behind

Leave valuables and jewellery at home, skip bulky luggage (you will bring back dates and gifts), and do not carry restricted medicines without prescriptions — Saudi drug laws are extremely strict. Perishable food items and large quantities of Zamzam in checked bags are not allowed; airlines provide an official Zamzam allowance process at departure, which our team explains before you fly.
