Best Time to Perform Umrah: Weather, Crowds and Prices

When is the best time for Umrah? A month-by-month look at Makkah and Madinah weather, crowd levels, Ramadan, and when packages cost least from Pakistan.

The short answer

For comfortable weather and manageable crowds, November to February is the best time for Umrah — daytime temperatures in Makkah sit around 25–32°C and evenings are pleasant. For the lowest prices, travel just after Ramadan and outside school holidays. Ramadan itself is the most spiritually rewarding — and the most crowded and expensive — time of the year.

Weather through the year

Makkah is one of the hottest cities on earth in summer: June to September regularly exceeds 40°C, which is genuinely hard for elderly pilgrims and children. From November to February the weather is mild and walking between hotel and Haram is comfortable. Madinah is slightly cooler and drier than Makkah, with cold early mornings in December and January — pack a warm layer.

Crowds: the peaks to know

  • Ramadan — the busiest month of all, especially the last ten nights; book many months ahead
  • The last days of December and Pakistani winter school holidays — heavy family travel
  • Rabi al-Awwal — many Pakistani groups travel for the month of the Prophet's birth
  • Quieter periods: the weeks just after Hajj season ends and mid-Shawwal onwards are noticeably calmer

Prices: when packages cost least

Umrah prices from Pakistan move with air fares and hotel demand. The most expensive departures are Ramadan, late December and the start of school summer holidays. The best-value windows are typically the low-demand weeks after Ramadan and in the hot summer months — although for summer you are trading price for very hard weather. Shoulder months like October and March often balance price, weather and crowds well.

Our honest advice

If elderly parents are travelling, choose November–February and a hotel close to the Haram — the extra hotel cost is worth more than any saving in summer heat. If budget is the main concern, ask us about post-Ramadan and Shawwal departures. And whenever you travel, booking early locks better hotels and fares: our packages page always shows current options, or message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you straight which dates give the best value right now.
